WHAT DO YOU APPRAISE?
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
HOW CAN I SELL?

Anything that is not considered "real" property, i.e., real estate, is considered personal property.  This is defined as  contents of the home that are movable, and would not stay with the property. Very broadly, this would include: art, antiques, furniture, rugs, clothing, accessories, jewelry and silver.

The old definition of an antique: "must be at least 100 years old" no longer applies. Some of the most valuable items we appraise are mid-Century, made in the past 50 years. A primary motivation for launching Roadshow At Home was based on the number of times our clients were surprised at what they had.

That simple yellow vase that was going to be donated? Turned out to be a $2,200 Chinese yellow glazed porcelain vase.

The plain silver earrings with an off-white stone? Georg Jensen, $475.

 KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Once you know what you have and what its worth, you can then make intelligent decisions based on your goals. Some of the options include:

  • Insuring items of significant value

  • Donating to a favorite cause

  • Creating an inventory list

  • Selling items you can live without

And the best one of all:

LIVE WITH YOUR FAVORITE PIECES AND ENJOY!

It seems like the options are endless.

  • Auction?

  • Private Dealer?

  • Consignment Shop?

  • eBay?

  • Craigs List?

  • Flea Market?

  • Estate Sale?

The answer?

YES to all of the above.

Each one can be quite effective and has its benefits. The challenge is knowing which of these is most appropriate for the particular item(s) you want to sell.

Where are you most likely to get fair market value for your item?

Once this is determined, which dealer or auction house or consignment shop is best?  There are many factors that go into this decision, including timing, global reach, geographic desirability, and most importantly commission. How much will you actual end up with after the sale.

Because of the long term relationships we have with multiple representatives in each category, we can guide you through the decision making process, and negotiate the most favorable terms for you.
